An encounter with the purest nature, where the river, the mountain and the Amazonian culture come together in a unique experience.
ITINERARY
📍 Itinerary
Day 1: Heading to the Heart of Megantoni and the Magical Yoguiato River
The adventure begins with a departure from the city of Quillabamba in private transportation, crossing tropical valleys and transition zones between the cloud forest and the rainforest. After several hours of travel by road, we arrive at the village of Ivochote, a point of connection between civilization and the deep jungle.
From Ivochote, we board a riverboat to begin navigating the waters of the Urubamba River. The landscape begins to transform: the hills become higher, the slopes steeper, and the greenery more intense. As we travel through the canyon, the vegetation becomes lush, and small waterfalls and streams begin to appear, cascading down from the mountains.
Upon reaching the Yoguiato River area, we disembark to enjoy a typical lunch prepared by the local people. Then we take a short hike through the forest to discover one of the sanctuary’s most striking spots: the Yoguiato River, whose turquoise waters flow gently among smooth stones, moss, and gnarled roots. This river is known for its special energy and is considered a place of spiritual connection by Amazonian communities. Here you’ll have time to contemplate the scenery, refresh yourself in its waters, or simply listen to the silence of the jungle.
At the end of the afternoon, we return to our campsite in Saringaveni, a natural clearing where the open-air accommodations are set up. In the evening, we share a hot dinner under the stars, followed by a campfire to exchange stories, relax, and feel the energy of nature.
Day 2: The Imposing Pongo de Mainique and its Hidden Waterfalls
At dawn, after a light breakfast, we resume our journey along the river towards the Pongo de Mainique, one of the most breathtaking places in the entire Peruvian Amazon. As we travel along, the rocky cliffs rise abruptly on both sides of the river, creating a breathtaking natural canyon. It is here that the Urubamba River cuts through the mountain range, forming a narrow gorge of turbulent waters, surrounded by towering rock walls and vertical vegetation.
During the river journey, you can observe hanging waterfalls cascading from the mountain heights directly into the canyon, enveloping the surroundings in a mystical mist. Among them, the Tonkini waterfall stands out, falling between cavernous formations and resonating like a natural song. It is a powerful and ancient image that remains etched in the memory of all who visit it.
This place impresses not only with its beauty but also with its spiritual significance. The Pongo de Mainique is considered a sacred place by the Matsigenka people and other native communities, who venerate it as a gateway of energy, a threshold between worlds. Here, respect, silence, and awe permeate the air.
After exploring the area and taking photographs, we begin our return journey by river to Ivochote, where we’ll stop for lunch and a short rest. Afterward, we’ll board our transport back to the city of Quillabamba, thus concluding a transformative expedition, ideal for lovers of unspoiled nature, ecotourism, and Amazonian spirituality.
