ITINERARIO
Itinerary
🏞️ Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Madre de Dios River Kayaking – Monkey Island
Meeting and Departure to the Dock (8:30 – 9:00 a.m.)
We meet at Puerto Maldonado’s Main Square (Plaza de Armas), where your guide will welcome the group and provide a brief introduction to the experience. We then transfer to the Madre de Dios River dock. Before departure, there will be a safety briefing, distribution of equipment (life jacket and paddle), and an explanation of the Amazon ecosystem and responsible tourism practices in Tambopata.
Kayak Adventure on the Madre de Dios River
The journey begins as you paddle through the calm waters of the Madre de Dios River, the perfect setting to experience the rainforest up close. Along the way, you’ll observe riverside vegetation, listen to the sounds of the forest, and spot wildlife such as herons, cormorants, tropical birds, and, if lucky, capybaras along the riverbanks.
This part of the tour combines tranquility and excitement, making it ideal for photography and a genuine connection with the Amazon.
Short Hike to the Amazon Hanging Bridge
We arrive at an adventure center deep within the Tambopata rainforest. A short walk along natural trails leads us to a hanging bridge suspended above the forest. Crossing it is an unforgettable experience, offering both adrenaline and panoramic views of the Amazon canopy—a natural lookout point to appreciate the vastness of the jungle.
Zipline Adventure Above the Rainforest
After crossing the bridge, it’s time for one of the day’s most thrilling activities: the rainforest zipline. Equipped with certified safety gear and accompanied by professional guides, you’ll soar above the treetops, feeling the breeze and enjoying breathtaking views of the endless jungle below.
Safety, excitement, and unforgettable memories guaranteed.
Boat Ride to Monkey Island
We continue by river toward Monkey Island while your guide shares stories about local wildlife and conservation efforts in the region. This is also a great opportunity to continue birdwatching and learn why this area is one of the most biodiverse regions in South America.
Guided Visit to Monkey Island
Upon arrival, we enter the sanctuary for an interpretive walk along its trails. Here, you’ll observe primates living in a protected semi-wild environment, including spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and monk saki monkeys. Your guide will explain their rescue stories, rehabilitation process, and the importance of combating illegal wildlife trafficking.
An educational and inspiring visit focused on animal welfare and conservation.
Optional River Swim
If river conditions are favorable and your guide approves, you may enjoy a refreshing swim in a safe section of the Madre de Dios River—a perfect way to relax before the return journey.
Traditional Amazonian Lunch at a Local Restaurant
Back in town, enjoy a regional lunch prepared with local ingredients. You may taste specialties such as fish wrapped in bijao leaves, juane, or tacacho with cecina, accompanied by natural Amazonian fruit juices.
Return to Puerto Maldonado (Approx. 5:30 p.m.)
We conclude the adventure with a return to Puerto Maldonado’s Main Square, accompanied by the beauty of the Amazon sunset and the feeling of having experienced a full day of nature, adventure, and wildlife.
