From here, we’ll begin our hike to Santa Rosa, descending a steep trail for approximately 3 hours. Day 2: Santa Rosa – Choquequirao – Maranpata
The second day begins with a nutritious breakfast prepared by our chef. We’ll then head towards the Choquequirao base camp, located in the village of Maranpata. This will be a day of significant effort, but also one of breathtaking rewards. The two-hour uphill hike to Maranpata will reward us with spectacular views of the mountains and the Apurímac River. In Maranpata, we’ll meet our team of cooks, horses, and riders, who will prepare a hearty lunch to replenish our energy.
From Maranpata, we’ll begin our ascent to Choquequirao, the majestic Inca archaeological complex. We’ll arrive around 9:30 a.m., and our expert guide will lead us through the main points of interest, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and the agricultural terraces. You’ll also have free time to explore on your own, immersing yourself in the history of this enigmatic place, believed to have been one of the last strongholds of the Incas against the Spanish invasion.
After an intense day of exploration, we’ll return to Maranpata to spend the night at our campsite. We’ll enjoy a comforting dinner while reflecting on the day’s experiences.
