ITINERARY
Itinerary – Rainbow Valley Tour
Departure from San Pedro de Atacama
We begin the tour from San Pedro, traveling towards the Domeyko mountain range. During the journey, the landscape changes: the flat desert gives way to mountains and ravines with the reddish and green hues characteristic of the high plateau.
First Stop: Yerbas Buenas (Petroglyphs)
Our first stop is Yerbas Buenas, an important archaeological site where pre-Hispanic petroglyphs are carved into the rock. Here you can see representations of animals, caravans, and cultural symbols that reveal the ancient trade routes connecting the desert with the Andean villages. It is a key place for understanding life and cultural exchange thousands of years ago.
Second Stop: Rainbow Valley
Next, we head to Rainbow Valley, named for the mix of colors seen on its hills: reds, greens, yellows, whites, and ochres, the result of minerals such as iron, clay, salts, and sulfur.
Upon arrival, we’ll take gentle walks through ravines and across multicolored hills to appreciate:
- Rock formations sculpted by erosion
- Unique color contrasts in the landscape
- The profound silence of the desert, ideal for photography and contemplation
This is the perfect moment to enjoy the tranquility, take photographs, and connect with nature.
Third Stop: Natural Viewpoints
During our trek through the valley, we’ll make several short stops at panoramic viewpoints, where you can capture the best views and compositions of the surroundings.
Each viewpoint offers different angles that highlight the colors and shapes of the valley.
